School's over, but that doesn't mean that kids need to stop learning or reading! Summer is a great time for kids to read what they enjoy and to learn in new kinds of environments. Summer learning loss (summer slide) is a real problem. In fact, research suggests students lose more than two months of math knowledge during the summer, and reading skill loss is similar. Here, we've compiled a few resources to keep students learning through summer, with a particular focus on math, reading and STEM activities. For a little motivation, we have set up two “Summer Slide BBQs!" Any learners reading 100 minutes and working on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for 60 minutes a week for four consecutive weeks will be treated to a summer slide BBQ. The principal will serve up some hot dogs and kids will have fun on the slip and slide! (Date : August 6th from 1:00pm-2:00pm) Bring your recorded minutes and enjoy some great food and fun! Please RSVP (524-1661) by August 1st so we know how much food to order. ) Online Resources - look to parent letter for login information Dreambox - K-4 |
